The family behind Fun Science Studios

Fun Science Studios isn’t part of a franchise or a big organisation.

It’s just… us.

Behind every workshop, birthday party, school visit and community event is our little family, each of us playing a part in our own way.

Founded in Portsmouth in July 2023, Fun Science Studios began with one simple belief: children deserve opportunities to experience science for themselves—not only hear about it or watch somebody else doing it.

Every part of Fun Science Studios has a little piece of our family in it.

How it began

One idea, plenty of experiments and a lot of determination

Fun Science Studios started from an idea that children would love science even more when they were trusted to become the scientists themselves.

We wanted to create experiences where children could mix, build, test, investigate, ask questions and proudly make discoveries of their own.

Since then, that idea has grown into regular workshops, birthday parties, school visits, community events, live science experiences and some wonderfully ambitious ideas that have occasionally taken over our home while being tested.

We have learned, adapted and grown one step at a time, always listening to the children and families who join us and always asking the same question:

“How can we make the next experience even better?”

2023

Fun Science Studios begins

Our first ideas became real workshops, welcoming children and families to discover science together.

2024

Supporting our local community

We collaborated with Portsmouth City Council, local schools and Saturday Kidz Zone—a voluntary, non-profit social club in Portsmouth supporting isolated deaf children, their siblings and families.

2025

Start-up of the Year finalist

We were incredibly proud to be named one of five finalists at The News Portsmouth Business Awards 2025.

2026

Three years—and a protected name

As we celebrated three years of discovery, we registered the Fun Science Studios name as a trademark to protect the identity, reputation and future of the family business we had worked so hard to build.

Meet the family

The people behind the experiments

You may see one of us at the front of a workshop and another carrying boxes behind the scenes, but every experience is created through a real family effort.

Beatrice from Fun Science Studios

Founder and lead scientist

Beatrice

I’m the one replying to your messages and emails, planning workshops, researching ideas and testing experiments—sometimes several times until they are just right.

I design the resources, write the posts, organise events, prepare the equipment and deliver the workshops, birthday parties, school visits and science experiences.

I wear a lot of hats, and I wear them proudly. Behind every finished workshop is a great deal of planning, experimenting, problem-solving and wondering how we can make the next one even more memorable.

Also responsible for the phrase, “I’ve had another brilliant idea…”

Stefan from Fun Science Studios

Behind-the-scenes problem solver

Stefan

Stefan is the one you may not see quite as often, but he is always jumping in wherever he is needed.

He helps transport equipment, set up events, clear everything away and pack workshops at the end of the day—especially when I can’t.

He never really knows what I am going to ask him to do next. Over the years, that has meant helping at science events, building, carrying or fixing things—and, at our very first Halloween party, dressing up as Frankenstein because I had come up with another “brilliant” idea.

Future party responsibilities remain strictly confidential.

Our original junior scientist

Yvette has grown up with Fun Science Studios

Yvette has been part of the journey from the very beginning. She has watched little ideas become real workshops, helped test experiments, shared her own brilliant suggestions and reminded me countless times what it feels like to see science through a child’s eyes.

She sometimes helps us prepare and set up—when she is open to helping, of course—and her honest opinions have helped shape more activities than she probably realises.

As Fun Science Studios has grown, so has she. Watching her own confidence develop through science has been one of the most meaningful parts of the entire journey.

She inspires Fun Science Studios more than she will probably ever realise.

What matters to us

The heart behind every experience

There may not be a head office or a handbook telling us what to do, but there are a few things that guide every decision we make.

Hands-on from the beginning

Children learn best when they are involved. They pour, mix, construct, test, question and make the discoveries themselves.

Every child belongs

Children of all abilities are welcomed and encouraged to participate at their own pace and in their own way.

The personal touch

Every message, experiment, resource and event comes directly from our family—not from a distant office or standard franchise formula.

Community at the centre

The families, schools and organisations that support us are a genuine part of our story and the reason we continue to grow.

Looking ahead

Growing carefully, without losing what makes us special

We have so many ideas that we would love to bring to life—and we will.

We are also happy to take one step at a time, stay true to what matters most and never lose the personal touch that brought us here in the first place.

As Fun Science Studios continues to grow, we hope many of the families, schools and organisations who have supported us will continue to be part of the journey too.
