Our general family workshops are normally designed for children aged 3–12. Some seasonal events, specialist sessions or larger activities may have a different recommended age range, so please always check the individual booking description.

The suggested age is based on the level of practical involvement, concentration and adult support normally required. Children develop at different rates, so please contact us before booking when your child falls outside the advertised range and you are unsure whether the session will suit them.

A standard workshop normally lasts approximately one hour and includes four hands-on science experiments. Children pour, mix, build, investigate, make predictions and discover what happens for themselves.

These are not sit-and-watch classes. Children become the scientists, while we explain the ideas behind each experiment in an engaging and age-appropriate way.

Experiments change regularly, so children can return to explore new activities and scientific ideas.

Yes. A responsible parent or carer must remain throughout a family workshop. Adults do not need to purchase a separate workshop place and are welcome to support and participate alongside their child.

Your involvement is particularly important for younger children. Children under six may need close one-to-one help with pouring, measuring, building or following the practical steps.

Fun Science Studios leads the activities, but the accompanying adult remains responsible for their child’s general supervision and behaviour.

No. Most public workshops are booked individually, so you can choose the dates and themes that suit your family without making an ongoing weekly commitment.

Where a special pass, voucher or multi-session option is available, its validity and booking conditions will be clearly explained before purchase.

Every child who will participate in the experiments requires their own booked place. This ensures that we prepare enough individual equipment, materials and protective items and that the group remains within the safe capacity of the venue.

Non-participating babies or siblings may only attend where the particular venue and event allow it and where the accompanying adult can still safely support the booked child. Please contact us before booking when you need to bring another child who will not be participating.

Please contact us as soon as possible. At least 48 hours’ notice is normally required to request a workshop transfer or refund, in accordance with our Refund & Cancellation Policy.

Requests received within 48 hours of the session are not normally transferable or refundable because the place, staffing and individual materials have already been reserved and prepared.

Late arrival does not extend the workshop. A child may need to wait until the next safe point before joining, and it may not be possible to complete an experiment that has already finished.

We welcome children with a wide range of needs and aim to make our activities as inclusive and accessible as reasonably possible.

Adjustments might include clearer step-by-step instructions, extra processing time, allowing a child to observe before joining, changing how materials are presented, adapting an experiment or positioning the child in a quieter part of the room.

Please contact us before booking with any information that will help us support your child. Parents and carers know their child best, and we are always happy to plan together.

Please tell us before the workshop about any relevant allergy, medical condition, skin sensitivity, respiratory condition, dietary restriction or other need that could affect safe participation.

Experiments may use common household, cosmetic, craft or food ingredients. Materials used in an experiment are not intended to be eaten unless we clearly state otherwise.

We cannot guarantee a completely allergen-free environment, but we will explain relevant ingredients and make reasonable adjustments or offer an alternative activity where practicable.

Activities are selected and prepared with the children’s ages, the venue and the group format in mind. We provide instructions and use lab coats, goggles, gloves or other protective equipment where required.

Children and adults must follow the activity leader’s instructions and only use materials when invited to do so. An experiment may be adapted or stopped if continuing would not be safe.

Practical science can involve water, foam, colour, slime and other messy materials. Lab coats provide some protection but cannot guarantee that clothing will remain completely clean, so please choose suitable clothes and shoes.

Children are never expected to perform or speak in front of the group during a family workshop. They may watch first, participate with their adult or join when they feel ready.

We encourage children warmly without forcing them. Some children engage immediately, while others need time to understand the environment and build confidence.

Where suitable and safe, children may take home something they have created. This varies between experiments and will be explained during the session.

A standard party includes four engaging hands-on experiments for the group and one larger show-stopper finale led by the birthday child.

We bring the science equipment and materials, lead the experience from beginning to end and provide appropriate lab coats, safety goggles and gloves where required.

Personalised laboratory details, photo props and other inclusions vary by package and will be clearly shown in your party brochure or booking confirmation.

Our standard birthday-party experiences are designed primarily for children aged 4–12.

We select suitable experiment options according to the birthday child’s age, the ages within the wider group, the venue, group size and level of adult support available.

Younger children may need closer help from parents or carers. Parties for older children can be adapted to offer more challenge and scientific explanation where appropriate.

Standard packages include up to 15 participating children. Additional children may normally be added for £10 each unless a different price is confirmed in your quote.

Smaller groups are welcome, although the standard package price still applies. There is no fixed maximum where the venue, staffing and planned format can safely accommodate the group.

The science experience is normally around one hour. Larger groups may require additional time, extra staffing or a rotation format. The final duration will be confirmed before booking.

Yes. You will be given a menu of suitable hands-on experiments and show-stopper options from which to build your party.

You are welcome to tell us about the birthday child’s interests, favourite experiments or preferred theme. Choices remain subject to age suitability, available space, weather, venue rules, material availability and practical safety requirements.

One show-stopper is included in the standard experience. Additional or specialist show-stoppers may be available as optional extras.

We can come to a suitable venue you have hired, your home or Baffins Community Centre, subject to room availability and any applicable venue charge.

Home parties currently carry an additional £40 fee because extra planning is often required for layout, access, equipment movement and experiment transitions.

Before confirming a home or unfamiliar venue, we may request photographs, measurements or information about tables, flooring, parking, water, electricity and access.

Venue hire is separate unless your quote expressly says that it is included.

A £50 non-refundable booking deposit is required to secure the agreed date and time. An enquiry alone does not reserve the date.

The deposit is deducted from the final party price. The remaining balance is due 72 hours before the agreed party time unless another deadline has been confirmed in writing.

Payment by instalments may be agreed. Any instalment plan and payment dates will be confirmed clearly before the booking is completed.

Please enquire at least three weeks before your preferred date whenever possible.

Shorter-notice bookings may occasionally be possible, but experiment choices, personalisation, party bags, decoration packages and venue availability may be more limited.

Some optional extras require at least two weeks’ notice because they involve personalised preparation or advance ordering.

Yes. Joint birthday parties are welcome.

A fee of £45 applies for each additional birthday child unless another amount is confirmed in writing. This reflects additional personalised materials and an additional special birthday or show-stopper moment.

Please tell us at the enquiry stage so that each birthday child can be included properly in the planning.

Food and birthday cake are not normally included in the science experience. The customer or venue is responsible for food arrangements unless catering has been specifically agreed in writing.

Please keep food and drinks away from the science equipment and allow a separate time for eating and cake.

Optional extras may include science party bags, personalised invitations, decoration packages and additional show-stoppers. Current choices and prices are shown in our birthday brochure.

We normally require access approximately 60 minutes before the science party for setup and approximately 30 minutes afterwards for pack-away. Decoration services may require an additional 30 minutes before guests arrive.

Fun Science Studios leads and manages the science activities. The party organiser remains responsible for general supervision, behaviour, toileting, food and the children outside the science session.

Enough responsible adults must remain to support the group, particularly where younger children are attending.

We work with primary schools, infant schools, nurseries, home-education groups, libraries, charities, community organisations, family-support services, businesses, festivals and event organisers.

Bookings can range from one focused workshop to several classes across a school day, an open discovery zone, a science show or a programme designed for a larger community event.

Yes. We can discuss the age group, current learning topic, desired skills and intended outcomes before preparing the session.

Activities may support areas such as materials, forces, reactions, states of matter, electricity, motion, investigation, observation and scientific vocabulary.

We balance educational value with active participation, so children are not simply watching a demonstration. Any curriculum links and intended activities will be agreed before the booking.

Capacity depends on the children’s ages, activity type, available space, number of supervising adults and the format required.

A class-sized group may complete a structured workshop together. Larger numbers can often be accommodated through repeated sessions, table rotations, open activity stations, a discovery zone or a combined workshop and demonstration.

Tell us the expected number of children at the enquiry stage so that we can recommend a safe and engaging format rather than trying to fit every group into the same structure.

Please provide your preferred date, full venue postcode, approximate timings, age or year groups, number of children, number of sessions and the type of experience you are considering.

It is also helpful to know the available room size, whether children will remain in classes or rotate, any planned theme, access restrictions and whether you require a workshop, show, open station or mixed format.

Prices are individually quoted because staffing, preparation, materials, travel, group size and the number of sessions vary considerably between organisations.

Requirements depend on the chosen activities, but we commonly need suitable tables and chairs, safe access, appropriate lighting and ventilation, and access to water and electricity.

We also need enough setup time and nearby loading or parking access because science equipment and materials must be carried into the venue.

Please tell us about stairs, parking restrictions, long carrying distances, limited water access or protected flooring before the booking is confirmed.

Fun Science Studios staff lead the science activities and provide instructions relating to the experiments.

The school, nursery or organisation remains responsible for its children, staff-to-child ratios, general behaviour, toileting, safeguarding procedures and any support normally provided to individual children.

Teachers, practitioners or responsible organisational staff must remain present and actively supervise throughout.

Relevant DBS and safeguarding information for the people delivering your booking can be discussed during the booking process.

Yes. We can provide relevant activity information, risk assessments and supporting business or safeguarding documents needed for the booking.

Please send us your organisation’s supplier, procurement or safeguarding requirements early enough for the documents to be prepared and reviewed before the event.

The organisation must also complete any venue-specific or internal risk assessment required under its own procedures.

Yes, wherever reasonably possible. Please provide relevant information about allergies, medical needs, disabilities, sensory differences, communication needs, mobility or other support requirements during the planning stage.

We can then consider suitable experiment choices, table layout, instructions, group size, transitions and possible alternative materials.

The school or organisation remains responsible for providing the child’s usual individual support and ensuring that appropriate staff are present.

Yes. Travel is included within 10 miles of Portsmouth. Additional mileage is normally charged at 50p per additional mile for the return journey. Longer journeys may also involve an additional travel-time charge, which will be explained in the quote.

We can provide hands-on activity stations, timed workshops, mini science shows, larger demonstrations or a combination designed for festivals, family days and community events.

Please provide estimated attendance, operating times, indoor or outdoor space, power and water access, weather arrangements and the expected flow of visitors when enquiring.

We do not treat making a booking as automatic permission to publish an identifiable photograph or video of a child.

Where Fun Science Studios photography is planned, we will provide separate consent arrangements or clear event-specific information.

Parents, carers and organisations should also respect the privacy of other children when taking or sharing their own photographs.

Yes. Science Workshop Vouchers can be purchased as gifts and are normally supplied as a digital PDF by email.

The recipient can use the voucher toward the number or type of sessions stated on it. A voucher does not guarantee a particular workshop until a separate booking has been completed and confirmed.

Any expiry date and redemption instructions will be shown on the voucher or accompanying email.

Occasionally, serious illness, severe weather, venue closure, transport disruption, safety concerns or another circumstance outside reasonable control may require us to adapt, postpone or cancel.

We will contact affected customers as soon as reasonably possible. Where we cancel the booked service, we will normally offer a suitable alternative or refund the payment made for the cancelled service.
